Venice in black and white
Engagement in Venice for her birthday
After so many dry weeks since Christmas the change in the weather with more cloudy days brought some hope for rain. For us photographers this is usually not good news.
I had Georgia and Luca's photo shooting booked only 1 day in advance and as it was a gift for her birthday. It could be not rescheduled.
Fortunately it did not rain, but it was quite cloudy, which makes it difficult to show the full potential of Venice's colors.
Not less interesting, I was able to work the photos with a more dramatic tone that works very well to reveal the romanticism of a couple in love.
After delivering the photos I had the idea of working on a small selection completely in black and white. I hope you enjoy!
Nice walking in Venice
Afroditi & George, a lovely couple from Greek 🇬🇷. We have spent a very nice walk on the streets of Venice.
Σας ευχαριστώ!

Proposal in Venice on a traditional Venetian gondola
Alina & Nathan, from USA at their engagement travel in Italy
As soon as I started working as a surprise wedding proposal photographer I knew it was always going to be a challenge. Although it's not always 100% surprise, as the fiancee already expects that during that trip, at some point the proposal will happen, I always need to treat the situation as being a surprise.
When Nathan hired me to photograph his proposal he told me he would like it to be in a gondola in Venice. He and Alina are North Americans. I am always curious how the guy manages to hide the little box with the engagement ring during the trip. I had already photographed requests in the gondola, but always together with the couple, which makes the surprise even more difficult. This time we agreed that I would follow the route from outside and photograph along the canals and bridges of Venice. It was a different and very rewarding experience, as I was able to offer different photos than usual.
Have a great 2022!
Time to be greatful and hope for the best
If 2020 took us by surprise, we can say that for 2021 we were already "vaccinated". We knew that the challenges would be even greater by not being free of this pandemic state.
Surviving these almost two years is already an important achievement, but to go through it and manage to grow, strengthen family ties, live more intensely our relationships, develop potentialities, keep a job, get a job, keep an enterprise alive, elevates us to small and anonymous heroes of everyday life.
Looking at all this, there is no lack of reasons to be thankful during this period. I thank for being able to share some of this, at a distance, with my family and friends; in person, with Alice and friends on this side. I thank all the clients who came from so many different countries and trusted me to record their moments and trips and help keep alive this endeavor of photographing people and their stories.
That in 2022 our projects may be not only realized, but duly valued and inspiring.
Rediscovering a place
We know that doing the same things over and over again is creating a routine. For work this often helps us. We save time and effort. For creative work, however, leaning on the guaranteed outcome of a routine can be quite dangerous. It may work for a while, but we know that our clients trust their moments to someone who - besides good photos - will guide them through some paths a little different from common sense, always looking for a beautiful, pleasant result that reflects the feelings involved in that occasion.
As we work in many cities, I often don't know anything about the place where I'm travelling to photograph. I end up studying and researching as much as possible about the city and its points of interest.
But when it comes to a big city in Italy, like Milan, Venice, Rome or Florence, we tend to think we already know almost everything. To do a 30 minute, 1 or 2 hour photo session it helps a lot, but we can't always have the same photos and the same poses in the portfolio. We need to create something different in those same places and whenever possible get to know new ones.
I've been researching more about Venice, a city that is so requested for photos. And I've realized that there's still a lot to see. And even though most of the clients will ask for photos in front of the Basilica of San Marco, besides the different angles that we can create there, it's always nice to include in the photo shoot a different place from the path through which everyone passes and come back with photos in the suitcase much more dynamic and creative.
In August we already have some photo shootings scheduled for Venice, and I can't wait to explore new perspectives in this enchanting city.
Pre Wedding of Manoela and Gabriel, from Brazil
Soon it will be Manoela and Gabriel's wedding day, a young couple from Brazil living in Italy. This week we had the opportunity to record this beautiful pre-wedding session in Venice.
Venice for fun!
It's no secret that Venice has carried a magical atmosphere for centuries. The scenic is part of Venetian culture, with Carnival, the masks and the most famous Film Festival in Italy.
It was in this fun atmosphere that I met Sherry. She came from Phoenix, USA, where she lives, to get to know Italy and wanted to record this moment with a photo shoot in Venice.
She was travelling alone. It is always an honor to collaborate with someone to portray their image in a city far from their home country.
It rained a little that day, but we did a beautiful and fun photo shoot.
Yesterday the New York-Venice route was resumed with Delta Airlines. We hope it will be the return of those dear American travellers.
Big family at Lake Como
Tomorrow I will return to one of Italy's most enchanting destinations: Lake Como. Surrounded by mountains and valleys, its shore stretches to dozens of towns from where you can explore the most varied views of the lake.
At the last photo shoot there I was with a lovely and large family of North Americans. Was it easy to photograph a couple with 4 small children? Definitely not lol. But I can say we had a great time and the family loved it!
Pregnancy Session at Lake Como
When I lived in brazil, I used to photograph many pregnancy shootings. Here in Italy the requests for pregnancy photos are slowly appearing and this gives a balance in the work with tourists and weddings. It's so nice to talk to people with these plans to grow the family, value this time together for portraits that will mark such an important moment in their lives.
Spending this time with Ana Carla's family was special, because it was a family of Brazilians, and we could remember and share memories and stories about Brazil.
They chose the city of Como with its splendid lake for this lovely pregnancy shooting.
How about to photograph at 7am?
Engagement session in Florence, Tuscany at 7am
Today I came here just to remember a very nice couple that I photographed in Florence. I've met so many travellers from Asia who come to spend their holidays in Italy and ask for a photo shooting. And with the pandemic and travel restrictions I end up missing so much these dear ones who shared great experiences with me.
When Roberta spoke to me she asked that we do the photos early in the morning to avoid the large number of tourists near the Duomo di Firenze. I love shooting at this time of the day because the light is fantastic. If one day you have the opportunity, wherever you are, don't miss it!
And if you come to Italy, I will be happy to photograph at 7am in Florence, Rome, Venice or any other destination you choose.

Solo Portraits - besides the selfies
When I started photographing people travelling in Italy I immediately imagined couples on their honeymoon. And when I was looking for inspiration on Instagram profiles and travel blogs about the cities I would work in, most of the photos were actually of couples.
But as requests for photo shoots came in, so did families, small and large groups and yes, people travelling alone!
At first it seemed a bit strange, but soon I got used to the idea and looked for more inspiration on how to photograph people alone.
I can say that the most interesting travel stories that clients have shared with me have been exactly in this type of session.
Emma was one of those nice clients who chose Florence to illustrate her solo trip through Italy.
How to choose a modern photographer in Venice
What to consider when you are searching for a photographer in Venice
If you are looking for a photographer in Venice you will find many options. Being able to define, among all of them, the one that meets most of your expectations may not be an easy task, but we can help you with some tips. Following these criteria will help, not only to define the best photographer for your trip to Venice, but for most tourist cities and even for other services like weddings or events in general.
Style
Most likely style and price will be the first criteria to take into account. As much as for many people it makes no difference, there are many styles when it comes to travel and event photographers. Basically we can define between classic and modern, mainly in relation to poses and use of light.
Of course anyone, be it classic or modern, can make good photos. But don't expect a classic studio photographer to deliver you a service that puts you at ease and walks through the small streets of Venice naturally, taking advantage of any natural light situation. He will probably prefer the same sights for every shoot, will always do the same poses and will work without much flexibility of time, routes and number of shots. Possibly he will use flash for all the photos. Not that this is bad, but making flash photos look natural is a skill that few professionals have.
Modern photographers tend to work in a lighter, more dynamic way. And even for a classic destination like Venice, shooting with a modern style will give a beautiful, elegant result, going through a more flexible route, with the possibility of shots in alternative locations, making your shoot really unique.
Price
Along with style, price is decisive when hiring a service. Fortunately there are also options for most budgets. I would say that a 1h photo session in Venice should cost between 150 and 250 euros for a package with about 30 photos. Some photographers offer shorter shootings of 15 or 30min for lower values.
There are other factors that help to define your photographer in Venice, such as the language and the professional's knowledge of the sights and best times to shoot in the city. Some local photographers have difficulty with the English language or don't even offer communication in languages other than Italian. If the photographer knows most of the sights of Venice and the best times for shooting, he or she will be able to offer the best options for a particular time of year.
When you start your search for a photographer in Serenissima keep these criteria in mind and make clear the style of photos you are looking for. If you have any questions regarding a modern photo session in Venice we will be happy to assist you.
